When asked about his retirement plan at the toss versus Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) in Lucknow, Chennai Super Kings’ (CSK) captain MS Dhoni handled the situation very well and told commentator Danny Morrison that he has never stated whether IPL 2023 will be his final season.
With Dhoni seemingly recreating a “definitely not” moment for his cricket fans, the legendary cricketer has once more kept everyone assuming about his IPL future.
During the toss, Morrison asked, “Clearly, This wonderful swansong tour, your last. How are you enjoying it?”. To which Dhoni responded, “You have decided it is my last IPL, not me.”
However, the 41-year’s old statement sparked speculation about his retirement.
Former Indian cricketer Harbhajan Singh said that only Dhoni knows when will he retire while remarking on CSK skipper’s plans.
“Only MS Dhoni knows when Dhoni will retire. I said last year that he will play this year. I don’t know if he will play next year as well. Yes, if he plays next year, the fans will be happy to see him playing. Fans have always wanted to see him playing,” Harbhajan was quoted as saying on Star Sports India.
Meanwhile, Mohammad Kaif headed on to emphasise Dhoni’s importance in the CSK lineup.
“Mahi is no longer playing as a player but as a mentor. He chooses the team. Let’s get on the field. He does not tease the seniors much but keeps on teaching the youth all the time. He wants every player, playing under him, to perform well as it will make the team’s job easier,” Kaif said on Star Sports’ Cricket Live.
Dhoni was honoured by Rajeev Shukla on Wednesday, ahead of the IPL 2023 match versus Lucknow Super Giants (LSG).
