During an IPL match played between Mumbai Indians (MI) and Rajasthan Royals (RR) at the Wankhede Stadium on Sunday (April 30), MI skipper Rohit Sharma’s dismissal in a controversial fashion became the talk of the town.

While chasing a mammoth target of 213 for victory, Rohit was adjudged clean bowled in the second over of the innings. However, the incident left many fans on social media questioning whether Rohit was genuinely out or not.

On reviewing the footage, it seemed like the ball delivered by RR seamer Sandeep Sharma clipped the stumps before reaching the wicket-keeper Sanju Samson, but the bails did not dislodge instantly. Once the ball reached the keeper, there was some disturbance and the bails lit up.

The umpire straightaway declared Rohit to be out, but his fans speculated on social media that the bails came off after Samson’s fingers touched the stumps.

Different angles of the incident provided conflicting accounts of what had occurred, fuelling further debate on social media.

Despite Rohit’s controversial dismissal, MI managed to recover early, thanks to the partnership of Ishan Kishan and Cameron Green. The two shared a vital 64-run stand for the second wicket, with Green’s impressive form standing out. He smashed 44 runs off just 26 balls, including four fours and two sixes.

Suryakumar Yadav continued the momentum with the bat and hit 55 runs off 29 balls, including eight fours and two sixes. His partnership with Green set up the foundation for a thrilling win for the home team. Towards the end of the innings, Tim David’s smashing performance helped MI claim their fourth win of the season by hitting two fours and five sixes in his 14-ball unbeaten 45.
