India’s young opener Shubman Gill has left everyone astonished with his brilliant strokeplay and exploits in recent times. The 23-year-old opener has put on an excellent show across formats this year and was also selected in India’s World Test Championship (WTC) 2023 Final squad based on those performances.

It is worth mentioning that Gill has hammered five international centuries in 2023 so far, including a double ton in the ODI format. He even finished as the leading run-scorer of the 16th Indian Premier League (IPL) by amassing 890 runs, supported by three hundreds in 17 matches.

Speaking of Gill’s next assignment, the Punjab cricketer is currently training in London and will next be seen in action in the WTC 2023 Final that will be held in Kennington Oval from June 7. The right-handed batter will open the innings for India alongside skipper Rohit Sharma against Australia in the summit clash.

Although Gill’s red-hot form is a big positive for India, Australia will look for ways to restrict him from scoring big runs in the marquee event. A piece of advice regarding the same was offered to the Australian bowlers from batting legend Greg Chappell.

Chappell said Gill struggles on a few lengths and can be troubled with a bit of pace and high bounce early in the innings. He further praised the India batter over his technique and reckoned that Gill has the ability to punish the Aussie bowlers as well if they don’t bowl in the right areas.

“I don’t wanna go into too much detail but I’m sure the Australians must have seen a couple of things that I have seen. There are little things that Shubman does a few things early in his innings that make him vulnerable to that length around off stump and if the ball bounces a little bit extra, he will susceptible to nicking off behind the wicket. But he’s a very good player. If they don’t bowl well, he will punish them,” said Chappell on Backstage with Boria.
