India’s veteran batter and 1983 World Cup-winning team member Kris Srikkanth has put forward a name of an Indian player who he thinks can perform the role of former star all-rounder Yuvraj Singh in the upcoming ICC Cricket World Cup 2023.
It is worth mentioning that Yuvraj played a significant role in India’s 2011 world cup triumph by putting up certain great performances with both bat and the ball. The 41-year-old scored 362 runs in nine matches of the ICC event and also bagged fifteen wickets at an impressive economy rate of 5.02.
Now when the event once again is set to return to India later this year, and many veteran cricketers are sharing their views on what the Indian team should do to emerge victorious in the prestigious tournament, Srikkanth also chose a player from the current Indian side who could repeat Yuvraj’s 2011 heroics in the 2023 ODI World Cup.
Speaking to India Today, Srikkanth started by highlighting the importance of all-rounders in Indian conditions and reckoned that Ravindra Jadeja could be the key player for India in this year’s world cup, just like Yuvraj was in 2011.
“In Indian conditions, some of the wickets will turn a lot. It won’t be bouncy like in Australia or moving conditions like in England. India are used to home conditions, and that is one of the biggest advantages for the Indians. In the 2011 World Cup, you saw a lot of all-rounders coming into play,” said Srikkanth.
“We had a fantastic side, very well led by (MS) Dhoni, too, and that time we have Yuvraj Singh. I believe Ravindra Jadeja will do what Yuvraj Singh did in the 2011 World Cup. I believe Jadeja, the Axar Patels of the world, these people will play a very crucial role if India has to win this 2023 World Cup,” he added.
