The much-anticipated Asian Games 2023 is scheduled to kick off in Hangzhou this September and October, and cricket enthusiasts are in for a treat as the sport takes centre stage once again. Cricket was inducted into the Asian Games in 2014, but the Indian team abstained from participation. However, this time around, India is all set to make its mark, with both the men’s and women’s teams gearing up to showcase their skills on the grand stage.

The men’s cricket competition will be held in the T20 format and will run from September 28 to October 8, while the women’s tournament is scheduled from September 19-28.

In a significant development, both the Indian team have secured direct qualification into the quarter-finals of the Asian Games 2023. This privilege has been awarded to India, along with Pakistan, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh, based on their rankings in the T20I cricket format. The teams have been granted T20I status for the matches, adding to the excitement as they vie for the prestigious gold medal.

Under the leadership of Ruturaj Gaikwad, a second-string Indian men’s side will take the field in the Asian Games, as the primary squad will be occupied with the ICC World Cup 2023 commitments. The Men in Blue are determined to leave a mark and bring home glory for the nation in the Asian Games.
