The cricketing world eagerly awaits the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup scheduled to be held in India from October 5 to November 19. Among the highly-anticipated fixtures is the match between arch rivals India and Pakistan, which was originally set to take place on October 15 in Ahmedabad. However, amidst the festive season, the game may see a change in its date.
Security personnel have raised concerns about the clash coinciding with the start of Navratri, a significant festival celebrated with enthusiasm, especially in Gujarat, where Ahmedabad is located. Navratri involves garba nights and other festivities, drawing massive crowds and heightened security concerns.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has been urged to consider altering the itinerary of the India-Pakistan game to avoid any logistical challenges during the festive period. The fixture holds immense importance for cricket fans, and tickets for India-Pakistan matches sell out within hours, making it a tough decision for the cricket board.
“We are mulling over all the possibilities and will take a call soon. We have been informed that a high-profile match between India and Pakistan should be avoided because of the festival,” revealed a top BCCI official, as reported by The Indian Express.

In response to the security concerns and potential disruptions during Navratri, BCCI Secretary Jay Shah has taken proactive steps. He has requested the state associations hosting World Cup matches to convene for a meeting in New Delhi on July 27. During this meeting, the apex body will discuss the security implications in Ahmedabad and finalize a new date for the much-anticipated India-Pakistan encounter.
“It will be in the best interest of all the associations that we meet to discuss the preparations and take decisions if any changes are required. You are requested to attend a meeting in New Delhi,” wrote Shah in a letter addressed to all state associations.
Changing the date of such a high-profile match presents significant challenges, as fans have already made travel plans and booked accommodations. Moreover, India-Pakistan matches are known for generating sky-high television ratings, making it a major event in the cricketing calendar.
