India’s young batting sensation Shubman Gill was recently subjected to huge backlash due to his below-par form across formats on India tour of West Indies 2023. However, Gill silenced his critics and answered his doubters with a resounding performance in the fourth T20I of the ongoing Caribbean tour. The 23-year-old batter roared back to form with a dazzling display that not only helped India level the series against West Indies but also showcased his immense potential.
Gill hammered a scintillating 77 runs off just 47 deliveries against the Men in Maroon in the must-win fourth T20I of the five-match series on Saturday. He was well supported by Yashasvi Jaiswal (84). The duo’s brilliant partnership played a pivotal role in helping India register a comprehensive nine-wicket victory over the hosts.
It is worth mentioning that Gill was previously dismissed for mere 3, 7, and 6 runs in the first three T20Is and was struggling to find his rhythm before this game.

Gill reflects on his struggles against West Indies:
Following the win, Gill shed light on his approach and mindset, providing valuable insights into his resurgence during an interaction with Arshdeep Singh. The young Punjab batter emphasized the importance of sticking to the basics and analyzing one’s gameplay to identify potential mistakes. He also acknowledged the challenges of the T20 format, where quick runs are essential and opportunities to think are limited.
“It’s important to go to your basics. You have to identify whether you are making any mistake. I felt I wasn’t making a mistake in any of the three matches. But I couldn’t convert my starts,” said Gill.
“T20 format is like that. When you have 3-4 matches where a good shot is caught by the fielder, and you have to eye at making quick runs, you don’t have time to think much. You just look at what your template was when you were consistently scoring runs,” he added.
