Adam Gilchrist predicts Shubman Gill as the standout performer of the ODI World Cup 2023

In a recent conversation with Sportstar, Gilchrist added to the excitement surrounding the World Cup 2023 and predicted the player who could impress in the event with his performance. The 51-year-old named India’s young batting sensation Shubman Gill as someone who has the potential to stand out on the big stage. Gilchrist even lauded the 24-year-old Indian batter for his performance at the international level at such a young age.

“Shubman Gill. Everything that he has done in the international level, in every format, continues to amaze. He could possibly be one of the standout performers in the tournament,” said Gilchrist.

Adam Gilchrist highlights India’s strengths

Apart from this, Gilchrist also talked about India’s batting combination and emphasized that the Men in Blue have a formidable line-up that could help them repeat the 2011 World Cup glory. However, the former left-handed batter reckoned that it’s only possible if they remain unaffected by the talks in their surroundings and expectations.

“They have got a nice balance of experience, particularly of Rohit and Virat. KL Rahul is an experienced player already, and there’s younger blood in and around that, is a nice balance. The power games of Pandya in the middle is an example. They have got a talented squad and the big thing in India is to handle the expectations. If they can find a way – like they did in 2011 – to not let that expectation swamp them and overshadow everything, they will be very competitive. But obviously, that will be a challenge internally,” Gilchrist highlighted.
