Bangladesh have made a strategic move ahead of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 by signing a former Indian spinner as their technical consultant. With the tournament scheduled to commence on October 5 in India, Bangladesh aims to bolster their performance in the ODI format.

Despite being considered a lower-profile team, Bangladesh possesses several skilled players with a proven track record in ODI cricket. One standout player is Shakib al Hasan, the only all-rounder to achieve the impressive milestone of 30 wickets and 1,000 runs in ODI World Cups.

Sridharan Sriram to rejoin Bangladesh as technical consultant

Former India leggie Sridharan Sriram, who is known for his expertise in spin bowling, will rejoin the Bangladesh team as their technical consultant. He is set to join the squad in Guwahati on September 27, marking the beginning of their preparations for the 2023 ODI World Cup. Sriram’s role will involve providing valuable insights and local knowledge, particularly regarding the playing conditions in India. He will report to Khaled Mahmud, who recently returned as the team’s director.

Jalal Yunus, the chairman of the BCB’s cricket operations, has expressed the importance of Sriram’s role, stating that his familiarity with Indian pitches and weather conditions would be immensely valuable. Since only a few Bangladesh players have had the opportunity to play in India, Sriram’s experience is expected to bridge the knowledge gap and enhance the team’s preparation.

Sriram has previously served as a technical consultant for Bangladesh during the Asia Cup T20 played in the UAE and the ICC T20 World Cup held in Australia last year. He has also contributed to Australian cricket in the past, serving as a consultant coach for Cricket Australia from 2015 to 2018 and as an assistant coach to the Australian team for the next four years. Bangladesh are looking forward to tapping into his wealth of knowledge and expertise to boost their performance in the upcoming World Cup.
