Mohammed Siraj‘s remarkable performance during the Asia Cup final against Sri Lanka has captured the attention of cricket enthusiasts worldwide. He achieved his career-best ODI figures of 6 for 21, including an astonishing four wickets in a single over.

The right-arm pacer achieved a remarkable feat by equalling Chaminda Vaas‘ record for the joint quickest five-wicket haul in a One-Day International (ODI) match.

Siraj achieved this extraordinary milestone by capturing five wickets in just 16 balls, effectively decimating the Sri Lankan batting order with his sheer pace and skill.

As the ICC Men’s ODI World Cup 2023 approaches, Siraj will gear up to elevate his bowling prowess to new heights. With the world’s premier cricket event on the horizon, the 29-year-old understands the significance of fine-tuning his skills and adding even more deadliness to his bowling arsenal.

In a pre-match press conference leading up to the first ODI against India, Australian skipper Pat Cummins was asked if the team had formulated any special plans to counter the threat posed by Siraj in the forthcoming three-match series. Cummins kept it succinct and straightforward in response, stating, “No.”

“We don’t want to get to the first game  under-prepared”: Pat Cummins

Cummins emphasized the importance of striking a balance between acclimating to the prevailing conditions and securing victories leading up to the World Cup. He stressed the need to avoid being under prepared for the World Cup’s first game. While Australia aims to experiment with various combinations and players, they also have a well-structured plan.

“Want to strike a balance between getting used to the conditions and getting a few wins under our belts. We don’t want to get to the first game (of the World Cup) under-prepared. We want to try out a few combinations, a few different players but ideally, we have structured the combination we want to go about,” said the all-rounder.
