South Africa Women secured a comfortable victory over Pakistan Women in the 2nd ODI of the ICC Championship Match series. The visitors triumphed by six wickets, showcasing their dominance in the tour of Pakistan 2023 and clinched the ODI leg.

Proteas bowlers shine to pack Pakistan for 168

Pakistan’s batting performance was marked by inconsistency. Aliya Riaz was the top scorer for the team, contributing a valiant 53 runs off 86 deliveries. Sana Fatima also played a significant role in the innings, amassing 69 runs off 87 balls, featuring ten boundaries. However, the rest of the batting order struggled to make an impact.

For South Africa, the bowling duties were handled efficiently, with Nadine de Klerk leading the way by claiming four wickets. Masabata Klaas and Ayabonga Khaka provided excellent support by taking three and two wickets, respectively.

Steady batting help South Africa register a comfortable win

In pursuit of Pakistan’s target, South Africa displayed a steady batting performance. Tazmin Brits was the top scorer for the visitors, amassing 45 runs off 54 balls, including four fours and a six. Lara Goodall and Marizanne Kapp contributed with crucial partnerships, scoring 36 and 29 runs, respectively.

Sadia Iqbal and Umme Hani were the standout bowlers for Pakistan Women, claiming two wickets each, but they couldn’t prevent South Africa Women from securing victory. South Africa Women clinched the victory by six wickets, continuing their impressive form in the series.

De Klerk’s excellent bowling performance, where she secured four crucial wickets for South Africa Women, earned her the Player of the Match award.

1st ODI (ICC Championship Match) match result: South Africa Women won by 127 runs.
2nd ODI (ICC Championship Match) match result: South Africa Women won by 6 wickets.

The series now stands at 2-0 in favor of South Africa Women. The teams will meet again for the 3rd ODI on Thursday, September 14, at the National Stadium in Karachi, where Pakistan Women will aim to bounce back and secure a consolation victory while the tourists will focus on registering a clean sweep.
