In an exhilarating showdown at the Holkar Cricket Stadium, India claimed a resounding victory over Australia by a remarkable margin of 99 runs during the 2nd match of the Australia tour of India 2023. With the win, India also clinched the series and taken a lead of 2-0 in the three-match series.

India’s innings: A batting masterclass

India’s batting lineup delivered a breathtaking performance, accumulating a staggering total of 399/5 in their allotted 50 overs. Shubman Gill set the tone with an explosive innings, scoring 104 runs off 97 balls, including 6 fours and 4 sixes. Shreyas Iyer followed suit with a scintillating century, amassing 105 runs off 90 balls, featuring 11 fours and 3 sixes. KL Rahul contributed a crucial 52 runs off 38 balls, laced with 3 fours and 3 sixes.

Suryakumar Yadav provided fireworks with 72 runs off just 37 balls, including 6 fours and 6 sixes, while Ishan Kishan added quick runs with 31 runs off 18 balls, striking 2 fours and 2 sixes. Ravindra Jadeja played a valuable cameo, scoring 13 runs off 9 balls with 1 four.

Australia’s bowlers toiled tirelessly but struggled to contain India’s formidable batting onslaught. Cameron Green took 2 wickets but ended up conceding 103 runs in his 10 overs. Sean Abbott managed to secure a wicket but proved expensive, giving away 91 runs in his 10 overs.

Indian spinners choke Australia

Australia faced the daunting task of chasing down 400 runs for victory, a challenging target by any standard. David Warner provided a glimmer of hope with a rapid half-century, scoring 53 runs off 39 balls, featuring 7 fours and 1 six. However, the rest of the Australian batting order found it tough to counter India’s disciplined bowling attack. Tailender Abbott waged a valiant battle with a fiery 54 runs off 36 balls, comprising 4 fours and 5 sixes.

India’s bowlers exhibited their mettle in defending the target. Ravichandran Ashwin was the standout performer, claiming 3 crucial wickets while conceding 41 runs in his 7 overs. Jadeja, too, made a significant impact with his spin, taking 3 wickets and giving away 42 runs in 5.2 overs. Australia found themselves 99 runs short of the revised target, handing India a comprehensive victory by 99 runs.
