With the 2023 ODI World Cup just around the corner, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has announced the 15-member Indian squad that will represent the nation in the upcoming cricket extravaganza. As cricket enthusiasts eagerly anticipate the tournament set to commence on October 5 and conclude on November 19, one particular topic has ignited fervent discussion across social media platforms – which Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise boasts the highest representation in the Team India roster.
In a cricket-crazy nation like India, where the IPL has entrenched itself deeply into the hearts of fans over the past 16 years, the success of an IPL franchise is often measured by the number of its players who earn the prestigious call-up to the national squad. The unveiling of the ODI World Cup 2023 squad has revealed that almost every IPL team has contributed at least one player, with just two franchises left with no representation.
Maximum players are from Mumbai Indians
Leading the pack is the formidable Mumbai Indians (MI), known for their consistent IPL dominance, with an impressive four players in the current Team India roster. These players include captain Rohit Sharma, the explosive Suryakumar Yadav, the wicketkeeper-batsman Ishan Kishan, and the world-class fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah.

Following closely behind is the Gujarat Titans (GT), with three of their players securing spots in the ODI World Cup squad. The Prince Shubman Gill, the explosive Hardik Pandya and the seasoned pacer Mohammed Shami have all earned their spots in the national side.
The Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) and the Delhi Capitals (DC), both IPL franchises with a strong fan following, have two players each in the Team India lineup. The Royal Challengers will represented by the charismatic Virat Kohli and the talented fast bowler Mohammed Siraj. Meanwhile, the Delhi Capitals will have the left-arm spinner Kuldeep Yadav and the all-rounder Axar Patel flying their flag.
The Shah Rukh Khan-owned Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) also have two players from their side, Shardul Thakur and Shreyas Iyer.
Other IPL teams have contributed single players to the ODI World Cup squad. These Ravindra Jadeja from the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and KL Rahul from the Lucknow Super Kings (LSG).
In a somewhat unexpected turn of events, three IPL franchises, the Punjab Kings (PBKS), the Rajasthan Royals (RR) and the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH), are the only ones that couldn’t secure any representation in the India squad for the ODI World Cup 2023. While this may come as a disappointment to fans of these teams, it speaks to the intense competition and depth of talent in the IPL.
