In the ongoing Match 18 of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru, five-time World Cup champions Australia locked horns with Pakistan in a high-voltage encounter. Australian openers David Warner and Mitchell Marsh wasted no time taking on the bowlers right from the word go.
Warner-Marsh give Australia dominant start
Pakistan’s captain, Babar Azam won the crucial toss and opted to field first. However, this choice would soon turn out to be a costly one. The opening pair of Warner and Marsh unleashed havoc upon the formidable Pakistani bowling attack. In a remarkable display of batting prowess, the Australian team breached the 200-run mark in no time, without loosing a single wicket.
During the incredible innings, Warner showcased his exceptional skills by scoring 105 runs in 89 balls, while his partner, Marsh, also exhibited his batting masterclass by contributing 108 runs from 103 balls. Their partnership (259 runs) laid down a strong foundation for Australia in this crucial game. Marsh departed after playing a glorious knock of 121 runs.

David Warner’s radiant sixer
Amidst his array of eye-catching shots, one moment that stood out was when Warner smashed a remarkable six off Haris Rauf during the second ball of the 9th over. Warner elegantly crouched down and dispatched a delivery from Rauf, racing at 146 kilometres per hour, to a spot behind the square. The ball had such immense power behind it that it made contact with the stadium’s roof before making its way back to the field.
It’s noteworthy to mention that earlier in the 5th over of the innings, Warner had a stroke of luck when Pakistan debutant Usama Mir dropped a straightforward catch off pacer Shaheen Shah Afridi‘s delivery.
