The cricket world was set ablaze when India emerged victorious against Pakistan in the 12th match of the ODI World Cup 2023. The highly anticipated encounter was held at the iconic Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad and witnessed the Men in Blue securing their eighth World Cup win over their arch-rivals, maintaining their dominance.

Amidst the jubilation of India’s victory, two tweets, allegedly from Mohammed Siraj and Jasprit Bumrah, dedicating the win to Israel, spread like wildfire across the internet. In light of the ongoing Israel-Palestine conflict and Pakistan’s Mohammad Rizwan dedicating his ton against Sri Lanka to Gaza, these tweets sparked intense speculation and discussion.

The alleged Tweets from Mohammed Siraj and Jasprit Bumrah

Soon after India’s emphatic victory, a tweet supposedly from Mohammed Siraj’s account emerged with a caption, “This was for our brothers and sisters in Israel.” This tweet garnered immense attention,
being retweeted by over fourteen thousand users.

Similarly, a post in support of Israel under Bumrah’s name also created a social media storm. It read, “This was for our brothers and sisters in Israel. Happy to contribute to the win. Credits to the whole team
and especially Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma.”

Fact Check: Did Mohammed Siraj and Jasprit Bumrah really dedicate India’s performance against Pakistan to Israel?

After conducting a thorough fact check, it was revealed that both accounts responsible for these tweets were parody accounts and lacked the official verified checkmark. The verified accounts of both Mohammed Siraj and Jasprit Bumrah did tweet about India’s victory but did not mention Israel or dedicate their performance to its citizens.

Asked to bat first, Pakistan’s innings began steadily, with Abdullah Shafique and Imam ul Haq providing a solid foundation. Nevertheless, the Indian bowlers, led by the ever-reliable Bumrah, picked up crucial wickets at regular intervals. Bumrah and Siraj bowled brilliantly, each claiming two wickets to bundle out Pakistan for 191 runs.

In reply, India comfortably chased the set target courtesy of a brilliant innings from Rohit Sharma. He played an explosive knock of 86 runs off 63 balls. Shreyas Iyer also chipped in with a composed 53. Bumrah was adjudged ‘Player of the Match’ for his sensational bowling performance.
