In the 17th match of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023, India are taking on their neighbor, Bangladesh, at the Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium in Pune. India’s last outing saw them triumph over their arch-rivals Pakistan, securing a seven-wicket victory. In contrast, Bangladesh are coming off an eight-wicket loss to New Zealand in their most recent match.

Tanzid Hasan-Litton Das give power start to Bangladesh

In the high-stakes encounter, Bangladesh won the toss and chose to bat first, setting the stage for an intense clash. Notably, their regular captain, Shakib Al Hasan, was absent due to injury, leaving Najmul Hossain Shanto in charge. Litton Das opened the batting alongside Tanzid Hasan. 

Together, they launched a formidable attack against the Indian bowling lineup, forging a strong opening partnership worth 93 runs. However, Tanzid’s impressive innings ended when he fell victim to Indian spinner Kuldeep Yadav. Litton, too, departed after a commanding performance, amassing 66 runs, courtesy of all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja‘s spin mastery. Bangladesh ended up at the total of 256/8 in 50 overs.

Kuldeep’s outstanding dismissal of Tanzid Hasan

Kuldeep’s masterful performance came to the forefront as he provided the crucial breakthrough that India had been eagerly seeking. The game-changing incident unfolded on the fourth delivery of the 15th over when the left-armer delivered a deceptive leg-break that held its line after pitching on the stumps. Tanzid, expecting some turn, bent down and aimed to sweep the ball towards backward square leg but failed to connect, resulting in the ball striking him on the front pad.

A fervent appeal resonated from the Indian players, and the umpire, concurring with their plea, raised his finger. The critical verdict proved instrumental in dismantling a partnership that had the potential to pose a significant challenge for the Indian team.
