The junior selection committee of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) unveiled the India U-19 squad for the upcoming tri-series in South Africa and the ICC Men’s U19 World Cup 2024. The announcement was made on Tuesday, December 12, marking a significant step in preparing the young talents for these prestigious tournaments.
Tri-series featuring India, England & South Africa
The tri-series, set to commence on December 29, will include India, England and South Africa. The young talents will engage in intense competition, gaining valuable experience as they face off against formidable opponents. The tri-series final is scheduled for January 10, providing a platform for players to showcase their skills.
ICC Men’s U19 World Cup 2024
Following the tri-series, the India U19 team will shift focus to the ICC Men’s U-19 World Cup, taking place in South Africa. The World Cup is a highly anticipated event, with the opening fixture featuring Ireland and the USA. India, as the five-time champions and the winner of the last edition, will commence their campaign against Bangladesh in Bloemfontein on January 20.
Group assignments and Super six phase
India have been placed in Group A alongside Bangladesh, Ireland, and the USA. The top three teams from each group will advance to the Super Six phase, where the top four teams will then qualify for the semi-finals. The culmination of the competition is set to take place on February 11, with the final scheduled at Willowmoore Park in Benoni, which will also serve as the venue for the two semi-final matches.

India’s squad details for the tri-series and U19 World Cup
Uday Saharan, hailing from Punjab, has been entrusted with the leadership role as the captain of India’s U19 squad. Saumy Kumar Pandey from Madhya Pradesh will serve as his deputy for both the tri-series and the World Cup. The selected 15-man squad represents a blend of talent and potential, and under the captaincy of Saharan, the team aims for a successful campaign in South Africa.
