The much-anticipated Indian Premier League (IPL) auction for the 2024 season unfolded in Dubai, featuring a pool of 332 players who went under the hammer. The auction, held last week, saw active bidding from the ten franchises as they sought to bolster their squads ahead of the forthcoming season.
All slots filled at IPL 2024 auction
Post the intense auction proceedings, a total of 72 players found new homes, with the ten teams collectively spending ₹230.45 crore in player acquisitions. Notably, the purchases included 30 overseas players, indicating the global flavour that the IPL continues to attract.
The player retention window for IPL 2024 closed on November 26, and the ten franchises collectively decided to retain 173 players, showcasing a mix of experience and emerging talent. This strategic retention allowed teams to maintain a core group of players while actively participating in the auction to address specific gaps in their squads.
With all available slots now filled, the franchises will shift their focus to the upcoming IPL season. The tournament is tentatively scheduled to commence on March 22, promising another thrilling edition of the high-octane cricket battles.
