Cricket enthusiasts worldwide are gearing up for the much-anticipated Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 players’ auction scheduled to unfold in Dubai on December 19. A staggering 333 cricketers are set to go under the hammer in what promises to be a riveting event for both fans and franchises alike.

Familiar names released

In recent developments leading up to the auction, all 10 IPL franchises have revealed their lists of retained and released players, setting the stage for intense bidding wars and strategic maneuvers. Among the franchises, Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) have captured attention by parting ways with a significant number of players, particularly from their bowling unit.

A total of 11 players bid adieu to RCB, a list that includes notable names such as Wanindu Hasaranga, Harshal Patel, and Josh Hazlewood. The decision to release a considerable portion of their bowling arsenal suggests a potential reshaping of the squad’s dynamics ahead of the upcoming season.

Key players retained

Despite the departures, RCB have opted to retain key players who have been instrumental in their past campaigns. The charismatic Virat Kohli, explosive all-rounder Glenn Maxwell, the prolific Faf du Plessis, and the rising pace sensation Mohammed Siraj are among the players who will continue to don the RCB colors.

Du Plessis, in particular, emerged as a standout performer for RCB, finishing as their leading run-scorer in the previous season with an impressive tally of 730 runs in 14 matches, boasting an outstanding average of 56.15. Similarly, Siraj proved to be the bowling linchpin, claiming 19 wickets from 14 games, making him the highest wicket-taker for the franchise.
