Coetzee, who made waves as a revelation for the Proteas during the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023, emerged as South Africa’s highest wicket-taker in the tournament. His exceptional performance saw him claim 20 wickets from just eight games, boasting an outstanding average of 19.80. His remarkable display of pace and variations made him a coveted asset for IPL franchises.
Gerald Coetzee excited to bowl with Jasprit Bumrah
MI, known for their strategic picks, secured Coetzee with high hopes for the upcoming IPL season.
Speaking after signing with MI, Coetzee expressed his eagerness to don the blue and gold jersey and share the bowling responsibility with star India pacer Jasprit Bumrah at the iconic Wankhede Stadium.
“I cannot wait to join the Mumbai Indians team for the next IPL season. Running out at the Wankhede in the blue and gold, and bowling with Bumrah, I cannot wait. It’s going to be fantastic. I’m so excited to see all of you there,” said Coetzee in the video shared by MI on social media.

The Nita Ambani-owned franchise, not content with just one major signing, also secured Sri Lankan left-arm pacer Dilshan Madushanka for a substantial sum of INR 4.60 crore.
The addition of both Coetzee and Madushanka adds depth and firepower to MI’s bowling lineup, further solidifying their position as strong contenders for the IPL 2024 title.
