In a recent video on International Cricket Council (ICC)‘s Instagram handle, former England captain Nasser Hussain shared his insights on two young cricketers destined for future greatness.

He highlighted India‘s Shubman Gill and New Zealand’s Rachin Ravindra as his picks for becoming future legends in men’s cricket.
Expressing his insights on Gill, Hussain emphasized the invaluable learning experience Gill must have gained from sharing the crease with Indian skipper Rohit Sharma. Highlighting the mentorship and partnership between the two batters, Hussain labeled Gill as a “super talent” poised to become a significant star in Team India‘s future
“The men, I am going to go with Shubman Gill. I think he had a very good three quarters, nine-tenths of 2023. He must have learned so much having the likes of Rohit Sharma at the other end,” Hussain said.
“It just fell away maybe at the end. Maybe that illness just got to him a little and his form (dipped) just in a month. We take it far too short when we are in the broadcasting world. He’s a super talent and he’s going to be the next sensation for India for years to come. So hopefully, he’ll have a good 2024,” the 55-year-old added.
Hussain then turned his attention to New Zealand’s Ravindra, recognizing him as a promising player destined for greatness in men’s cricket.
“Going into that World Cup, I’d seen him in England a bit. He came in at Lord’s down the order and smashed it around and I thought, he can play. And then, they moved him up to the top of the order and he was a revelation. So, Rachin Ravindra, hopefully he can continue his progression,” the cricketer-turned-commentator concluded.

Shubman Gill’s record-breaking year in ODIs
Gill’s meteoric rise in 2023 was particularly evident in the One Day Internationals (ODIs), where he not only dominated the batting charts but also set new records. Gill’s 1584 runs in 29 ODIs at an average of 63.36 and a strike rate of 105.45 showcased his ability to anchor the innings and accelerate when needed. His monumental double century against New Zealand, scoring 208 off 149 balls, stands as a testament to his batting prowess. With an incredible five centuries and nine fifties in the year, Gill’s impact in the 50-over format solidifies his status as a future legend.
Rachin Ravindra: A sensational all-round talent
Ravindra’s standout performances in the ODI World Cup 2023 established him as one of the tournament’s highest run-scorers, amassing 578 runs at an average of 64.22. His remarkable year included 911 runs in 37 international matches, accompanied by three centuries and three fifties, making him a force to be reckoned with in the future. Moreover, his contributions with the ball, taking 23 wickets across formats, showcased his versatility as a genuine all-rounder.
