In a significant setback for the South African cricket team, both Temba Bavuma and Gerald Cortzee have been ruled out of the upcoming second Test against India in Cape Town due to injuries. The news was confirmed by the team management, and the Proteas have swiftly named a replacement captain for the crucial encounter.

Temba Bavuma, Gerald Cortzee suffered injuries during the Centurion Test

Regular skipper Bavuma sustained an injury during the first Test and went off the field. Dean Elgar, who will bid farewell to international cricket after the ongoing Test series, assumed the role of the captain in South Africa’s win by an innings and 32 runs at SuperSport Park, Centurion.

On the other hand, Cortzee, who made an impressive international debut recently, has also been sidelined due to injury concerns. The fast bowler will be missing the Cape Town Test after developing pelvic inflammation during the Centurion Test.

No replacement has been named for Coetzee, but Lungi Ngidi seems the likely candidate to replace him in the match.

In the wake of these developments, Cricket South Africa (CSA) has announced that Elgar as the captain for the upcoming Test match. Elgar, an experienced campaigner, brings leadership prowess and a wealth of international experience to guide the team in the two-match series against India.
