In the second T20I of the Ireland Women tour of Zimbabwe Women 2024, held at the Harare Sports Club, Zimbabwe Women won the toss and elected to bowl first. The Irish side came up with a spectacular performance both with the ball and the bat to register a victory and take a 2-0 lead in the five-match series.

Amy Hunter shines with the bat

Ireland Women put up a strong batting performance, posting a formidable total of 172/3 in their allotted 20 overs. Amy Hunter led the charge for Ireland Women with a brilliant knock of 77 runs off 57 balls, including 6 fours and 2 sixes. She was well-supported by Gaby Lewis (44 runs off 43 balls) and Orla Prendergast (37 runs off 17 balls). Zimbabwe Women’s bowlers struggled to contain the Irish batting lineup, with Precious Marange being the only wicket-taker, finishing with figures of 1 wicket for 26 runs in her 4 overs.

Laura Delany’s splendid bowling helps Ireland claim a comfortable win

In response, Zimbabwe Women could only manage 130/8 in their 20 overs, falling short of the target by 42 runs. Kellies Ndlovu was the top scorer for Zimbabwe Women, scoring a valiant 52 runs off 41 balls, but her efforts were not enough to secure victory. Laura Delany was the standout performer with the ball for Ireland Women, picking up an impressive 4 wickets for just 12 runs in her 4 overs.

Despite a fighting effort from Zimbabwe Women’s batters, Delany’s superb bowling performance proved to be the difference as Ireland Women emerged victorious by 42 runs. Delany was deservedly awarded the Player of the Match for her exceptional all-round performance, playing a pivotal role in Ireland Women’s triumph.
