The third and final test of the three-match series between Australia and Pakistan concluded on an emotional note as Australian veteran opener David Warner bid adieu to Test cricket at his home ground, the Sydney Cricket Ground. The hosts secured an eight-wicket victory on Day 4, resulting in a complete white wash of Pakistan, winning the series 3-0.

In the fourth innings, Australia were set a modest target of 130 runs to chase down. Despite losing Usman Khawaja in the first over of the run-chase, Warner and Marnus Labuschagne exhibited remarkable intent, alleviating the pressure on the home team. They added 119 runs for the second wicket before Warner departed for 57, just 11 runs shy of victory.

Warner’s significant contribution to Australian cricket

Warner has been a significant contributor to Australian cricket across all formats, accumulating 8,786 runs in Test cricket from 112 matches at an average of 44.59. The veteran batter has registered 26 centuries and 37 fifties in Test cricket. His contributions at home include 5,438 runs from 57 Test matches at an impressive average of 57.85.

Cricket community applaud Warner’s contributions

The cricket fraternity and analysts alike showered praises on one of the most celebrated cricketers. One of the greatest player of all time, Sachin Tendulkar has applauded Warner’s transition and evolution in the game and considered that admirable.

“From being an explosive T20 batter to becoming a resilient Test player, @davidwarner31‘s journey exemplifies adaptability and grit. His transition and evolution in the game has been remarkable, showcasing aggressive intent while mastering the art of pacing an innings. Congratulations on a wonderful Test career, David! Best wishes to you and your family,” Tendulkar wrote.

Former Indian opener Wasim Jaffer expressed his admiration for the batter’s journey from T20 cricketer to Test giant.

“Started out as a T20 bat but took to the Test game like fish to water and there was no looking back. He could score a hundred before lunch or bat long and score triple ton. Farewell, @davidwarner31. You should be mighty proud of all you achieved wearing that baggy green,” Jaffer tweeted.

Former England captain and now cricket commentator, Michael Vaughan also shower praised for Warner and hailed his contribution for Australia.

“Brilliant Test career @davidwarner31. Love sports people that play on the edge and you have done that throughout,” Vaughan posted.
