Former Pakistan cricketer Imran Khan sentenced to 10 years in jail

Former Pakistan cricket captain Imran Khan has been sentenced to 10 years in jail in the cipher case, according to the decision announced on Tuesday. The special court judge Abul Hasnat Zulqarnain revealed the verdict during a hearing held at Adiala Jail in Rawalpindi.

Judge Zulqarnain has been presiding over the case’s hearings at Adiala Jail since its commencement last year. Apart from Imran, PTI leader Shah Mahmood Qureshi has also been sentenced to 10 years in jail.

Prior to delivering the verdict, judge Zulqarnain reminded the PTI leaders during the hearing that their lawyers were not appearing in court and were provided with state lawyers. The court also noted that Imran and Qureshi were given questions under 342.

Imran Khan’s cricketing career

Imran Khan, renowned for his illustrious cricketing career, played 88 Tests and 175 ODIs for Pakistan. With an average of 37 with the bat and 22 with the ball, he left an indelible mark on the cricketing world. In his last decade of international cricket, Imran featured in 51 Tests, boasting an impressive average of 50 with the bat and 19 with the ball.

Imran also led Pakistan to their historic maiden ODI World Cup title in 1992.

The sentencing in the cipher case marks a poor development in the life of the cricket legend turned politician.
