In the 47th match of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024,  Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) defeated Delhi Capitals (DC)  by 7 wickets. DC struggled while batting first, failing to produce any substantial partnerships. None of their batters could muster a half-century, with even the usually reliable Jake Fraser-McGurk departing for just 12 runs. With this, DC could only post a modest total of 153/9.

In response, KKR chased down the target comfortably, displaying control throughout their innings. Phil Salt stood out with a brilliant knock of 68 runs off 33 balls, while Shreyas Iyer (33 off 23) and Venkatesh Iyer (26 of 23) built a valuable partnership to seal the victory.

Despite the disappointment of the loss in the DC camp, a touching moment unfolded after the match as the Delhi head coach Ricky Ponting imparted valuable cricketing wisdom to young KKR batter Angkrish Raghuvanshi.

KKR inches closer to securing a playoff spot

The team led by Shreyas currently hold the second position in the points table, boasting 12 points from 6 victories in 9 matches. Sporting a commendable Net Run Rate of +1.096, KKR stand a strong chance of securing a top-four finish in the league stage. Their upcoming five matches put them against Mumbai Indians (MI), Lucknow Super Giants (LSG), MI (again), Gujarat Titans (GT), and Rajasthan Royals (RR).
