On Day 2 of the second Test in Cape Town’s Newlands Cricket Stadium, Indian pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah took control of the proceedings with a fiery spell in the first session. While Bumrah registered a six-wicket hall, Aiden Markram responded with a counter-attacking century, leading the lone battle for his side, South Africa.
Inspiring Jasprit Bumrah leads India’s charge with remarkable bowling
At the commencement of play on day two, The Proteas were trailing by 36 runs with just three wickets down. On the other hand India needed an inspirational spell from the bowlers to gain an advantage. Bumrah rose to the challenge, producing yet another inspirational performance for his side in his illustrious Test career.
Bumrah initiated his impact by dismissing David Bedingham in the first over of the day. Kyle Verreynne fell to a false shot, caught at mid-on, and Marco Jansen hit one straight back at Bumrah. The star pacer completed his fifer by getting Keshav Maharaj caught at the slip cordon.
Aiden Markram’s resilient century amidst South Africa’s struggles
A missed catch by KL Rahul deprived Bumrah of a potential six-wicket haul at that time, and Markram went on to achieve a sensational century. Despite the challenging pitch for the batters, Markram displayed resilience. In the opening session of the second day’s play, he reached the century milestone off 99 balls. Celebrating the achievement, Markram hit a boundary through point off the last ball of the 30th over by Bumrah, raising his arms in delight.

India’s strong position as they look to level the series
Eventually, Markram got out to Mohammed Siraj after scoring 106 runs off 103 balls, featuring 17 fours and two sixes. His attempt to slog the Indian pacer resulted in a skied shot, comfortably caught by Rohit Sharma. After Markram’s dismissal, India efficiently picked up the remaining wickets that also includes Bumrah’s sixth wicket, bundling out the hosts for 176. Now, India needs 79 runs to level the series after losing the first match in Centurion.

That is a hundred that beats any of Markram's centuries to date. What a brave, disciplined, and, later, brutal innings. Nice touch to honour Elgar in his celebration. He is immensely gifted. #SAvIND

As much as I rated Rahul’s 100 and then another 100 by dean in centurion , this 100 from markram is simply the best. Century out of SA 158 total with no support from the other end. Sublime class. Carry on Saucey 🔥
