Indian opener Yashasvi Jaiswal is scripting a dream run in the ongoing five-match Test series against England, showcasing remarkable consistency and prolific performances. His journey reached a significant milestone in the crucial fourth Test, adding another chapter to his impressive cricketing narrative.

Yashasvi Jaiswal’s prolific run continues: A historic 600-run series

After stunning the cricketing world with back-to-back double centuries in the second and third tests earlier, Jaiswal continued his extraordinary form in the ongoing Test at the JSCA International Stadium Complex in Ranchi. On Day 2 of the match, Jaiswal achieved a noteworthy feat, becoming the fifth Indian in Test history to accumulate 600 or more runs in a series. The left-handed batter reached this milestone with a single off Shoaib Bashir‘s bowling, ultimately contributing 73 runs off 117 balls to his team’s cause.

Elite company: Joining the likes of Sunil Gavaskar and Virat Kohli

Jaiswal now found himself in an exclusive club of Indian batting legends who have scored 600 or more runs in a Test series. The distinguished list includes Sunil Gavaskar, Virat Kohli, Rahul Dravid and Dilip Sardesai. Notably, Gavaskar, Kohli and Dravid achieved this feat twice in their illustrious careers, while Sardesai accomplished it during the West Indies series in 1970–71.

Historic feat against England: Following the legends’ footsteps

Jaiswal’s historic achievement further made him the second Indian opener, after the legendary Gavaskar, to score 600 or more runs in a Test series. Furthermore, he became the third Indian to reach this milestone specifically against England in a Test series. Dravid was the first to breach the 600-run mark against England in the 2002 series, and Kohli replicated the feat in the home series in 2016/17.

Jaiswal’s exceptional form has not only anchored India’s batting in the series but has also placed him in the esteemed company of cricketing legends, marking a significant chapter in his burgeoning Test career. As the series progresses, Jaiswal’s contributions become increasingly pivotal in India’s quest for success against a formidable English side.
