In a remarkable feat of bowling prowess, Ravichandran Ashwin marked his 100th Test appearance with a sensational 5-wicket haul, dismantling the England batting lineup on Day 3 of the fifth and final Test match at the HPCA Stadium in Dharamsala.
Ravichandran Ashwin dismantles England’s batting unit
Ashwin’s brilliance was evident right from the outset as he swiftly dismissed England opener Ben Duckett for a mere 2 runs. Duckett, who had struggled against Ashwin’s spin in previous encounters as well, fell victim to the off-spinner’s guile once again.
Continuing his onslaught, Ashwin then accounted for Zak Crawley (0), exploiting the pitch’s turn and bounce to deceive the England batsman. A well-directed delivery induced an inside edge onto the pads, leading to a comfortable catch for Sarfaraz Khan at leg-slip.
Ollie Pope (19) became Ashwin’s third victim of the day, falling prey to a brilliant catch by Yashaswi Jaiswal. The off-spinner further tightened the screws on the English batting lineup by dismissing the dangerous duo of Ben Stokes (2) and Ben Foakes (8) in successive overs.
Ashwin breaks Anil Kumble’s record
With this remarkable performance, Ashwin etched his name in the record books by surpassing Anil Kumble‘s tally of five-wicket hauls in Test cricket. This fifer marked Ashwin’s 36th five-wicket haul, making him the Indian bowler with the most five-wicket hauls in the longest format of the game.
