Held at Jaipur’s Sawai Mansingh Stadium, the clash witnessed both Virat Kohli and Jos Buttler lighting up the field with their century-scoring performances, providing fans with an exhilarating dose of entertainment.

In a spectacular display of batting prowess, RR star Buttler reclaimed his form with a scintillating century in his 100th match at the cash-rich league. His remarkable hundred not only overshadowed Kohli’s determined century but also contributed significantly to the Royals’ six-wicket victory in the contest.

Buttler’s unbeaten century, scored off just 58 deliveries, featured nine boundaries and four towering sixes, showcasing his sheer dominance at the crease. This remarkable innings marked his sixth IPL century. Prior to this innings, the England star had struggled, managing only 183 runs in his last ten IPL outings, including three ducks.

Record-equalling achievement

With this century, Buttler joined West Indies legend Chris Gayle for the second-most centuries in IPL history. He now stands just three tons away from surpassing Kohli’s record of eight IPL hundreds. Moreover, Buttler’s exceptional performance earned him his 11th ‘Player of the Match’ award for RR, establishing a record as the player with the highest number of such awards for a franchise in IPL history.

Historic milestone

Buttler’s century in his 100th IPL match places him among an elite group, becoming only the second player after KL Rahul to achieve this feat. The Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) captain, Rahul, accomplished this feat during the IPL 2022 season, when he scored a remarkable century in his 100th IPL appearance in the match against Mumbai Indians (MI). Meanwhile, in his IPL career, Buttler has so far amassed 3,358 runs at an impressive average of 38.15, with six centuries and 19 half-centuries.

Speaking about the match, RR, after opting to field first, restricted RCB to a modest total of 183/3 despite a formidable partnership between Faf Du Plessis (44) and Kohli (113*). Yuzvendra Chahal shone with the ball for RR, claiming two crucial wickets.

In the chase, RR lost Yashasvi Jaiswal early, but skipper Sanju Samson‘s blistering 69 off 42 balls provided valuable support to Buttler. Despite some late wickets, RR chased down the target with ease, securing victory with five balls to spare. Reece Topley stood out for RCB with figures of 2/27 but it wasn’t enough.
