The 31st match of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 brought excitement to Eden Gardens as the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) faced the Rajasthan Royals (RR). In this high-stakes game, Sanju Samson won the toss and chose to field first, a decision that paid off immediately thanks to Avesh Khan‘s quick work.

Avesh Khan’s stunning catch

As KKR’s Phil Salt was attempting to accelerate the innings during the powerplay, he struck a short ball powerfully, aiming for a boundary. However, Avesh, in a stunning display of agility, made a diving catch to his left, securing the ball in one hand. This exceptional catch marked Salt’s dismissal, providing RR with a crucial breakthrough.

A heartwarming celebration

Avesh’s brilliant catch was followed by a unique and light-hearted celebration. Samson rushed over, playfully removed one of his gloves, and handed it to Avesh. Avesh then placed the ball inside the glove and displayed it proudly towards his team’s dressing room. This humorous act not only celebrated Avesh’s exceptional catch but also highlighted the camaraderie and strong team spirit within the Royals.

Phil Salt’s short innings

Salt, who had recently delivered a match-winning performance for his team against LSG, struggled in this match. He managed only 10 runs off 13 deliveries, including a single boundary. Despite an earlier reprieve when Riyan Parag missed a catch at point during Trent Boult‘s first over, Salt couldn’t capitalize on the opportunity.
