In a breathtaking display of power-hitting, Ayush Badoni, the captain of South Delhi Superstarz, took center stage during the Match 13 of the Delhi Premier League (DPL) 2024 season. Facing off against the West Delhi Lions on Sunday (August 25) at Arun Jaitley Stadium, Badoni unleashed a ferocious onslaught, smashing four massive sixes in a single over, leaving the opposition shell-shocked and propelling his team to a formidable total.

Ayush Badoni’s destruction with four sixes

The moment of the match arrived during the eighth over of South Delhi’s innings when Badoni decided to shift gears. Facing West Delhi skipper Hrithik Shokeen, Badoni showcased his ability to clear the ropes with ease. The over began with a thunderous six over the deep mid-wicket boundary, setting the tone for what was to come. Not content with just one, Badoni followed up by launching the next delivery straight down the ground, sending the ball soaring into the stands for another towering six.

After a brief respite where he took a single, and his partner Priyansh Arya added another single, the strike returned to Badoni. He resumed his assault by stepping down the pitch and lofting the fifth ball of the over high over mid-off for yet another six. But Badoni wasn’t done yet. He finished the over in style, drilling the final delivery flat and straight, sending the ball rocketing back over the bowler’s head for his fourth six of the over. It was a masterclass in power hitting, and the crowd erupted as Badoni dismantled the opposition’s bowling attack.

South Delhi Superstarz’s well-rounded batting performance

Badoni’s explosive innings was just one part of a well-rounded batting performance from South Delhi. The innings began with openers Priyansh Arya and Sarthak Ray building a solid foundation, putting together a 52-run partnership off just 28 balls. Although Ray was dismissed for 22 by Deepak Punia, Arya continued to anchor the innings, scoring a valuable 45 off 26 balls, which included five boundaries and two sixes.

However, it was Badoni’s blistering knock that truly set the stage for a massive total. As the innings progressed, Tejaswi Dahiya added the finishing touches to South Delhi’s innings with an equally explosive performance. Coming in later in the order, Dahiya played a stunning cameo, smashing 57 off just 23 balls. His assault in the death overs pushed the total to a daunting 228/4 in the allotted 20 overs

West Delhi Lions’ chase falters despite strong opening partnership

In reply, the West Delhi got off to a promising start, with Ankit Kumar (47) and Krish Yadav (28) putting together a solid 76-run opening partnership. Nevertheless, once their stand was broken, wickets began to tumble at regular intervals, and the Lions struggled to keep up with the escalating required run rate. The team was eventually bowled out for 159 runs in 17.4 overs, falling short by 69 runs. South Delhi’s bowlers shared the spoils, with Ayush Badoni, Kuldip Yadav, Shubham Dubey and Digvesh Rathi each claiming two wickets, while Deepanshu Gulia chipped in with one.
