The 17th match of the ODI World Cup 2023 between cricketing powerhouses India and Bangladesh had fans on the edge of their seats. The game went underway at Pune’s MCA stadium and saw some stunning performances unfold in all batting, bowling and fielding departments.

However, one moment that stood out was a breathtaking catch from India all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja to dismiss Bangladesh’s Mushfiqur Rahim. Jadeja not only took a spectacular catch and left the crowd in awe but also added a special touch to it with his celebration.

A batting showdown and Indian bowlers fight back

The day began with Bangladesh winning the toss and opting to bat. Their batters, led by the duo of Tanzid Hasan and Litton Das, put on a brilliant show and laid the foundation for the team’s competitive total. Tanzid scored 51 from 43 balls, while Litton contributed 66 runs from 82 balls. Mahmudullah also added a crucial 46 runs from just 36 balls and powered Bangladesh to a score of 256/8 in the allotted 50 overs.

Bangladesh’s impressive start was well countered by the Indian bowlers as they fought back admirably in the middle overs. The wickets fell at regular intervals for Bangladesh soon after the departure of their opening batters, with Jasprit Bumrah, Jadeja, and Mohammad Siraj each taking two wickets. These crucial breakthroughs played a significant role in limiting Bangladesh’s score. Nevertheless, the bowling effort of India was completely outshined by a stylish catch from Jadeja.

The magic moment came in the 43rd over when Mushfiqur executed a powerful cut shot off Bumrah’s delivery. Although the ball seemed destined for a boundary, Jadeja had other plans. With incredible agility, he dived to his right at backward point, catching the ball with both hands and dismissed Rahim in style. The catch was nothing short of a blinder and was loved by the crowd.

Jadeja reveals the reason behind his celebration

In the mid-innings break, Jadeja revealed the reason behind his celebration. He said that it was directed at the Indian Team’s fielding coach, T Dilip, who presents the ‘Best Fielder’ medal to the standout fielder from every match.

“The celebration was dedicated to our fielding coach. After every game, we get the best fielder award, and so I wanted to show the fielding coach, see I am here,” said Jadeja.
