With the Under 19 Asia Cup 2023 just around the corner, Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) have revealed their 15-member squad set to compete in the prestigious tournament. Sineth Jayawardena, a promising young talent, has been appointed as the captain, while Malsha Tharupathi will assume the role of vice-captain. The official announcement comes as cricket enthusiasts eagerly anticipate the start of the tournament on Friday, December 8, in Dubai.

Islanders drawn in Group B
Sri Lanka find themselves placed in Group B alongside Bangladesh, UAE, and Japan. The team is scheduled to kick off its campaign against Japan on December 9, aiming to make a strong start in the highly competitive group.

Selection committee and approval
The Sri Lanka Cricket Selection Committee meticulously chose the 15-member squad for the U19 Asia Cup, with the final selection gaining approval from the Honorable Minister of Sports and Youth Affairs, Harin Fernando. The team, under the leadership of Jayawardena, is slated to depart for Dubai on December 6, 2023.
“The Sri Lanka Cricket Selection Committee selected the 15-member squad to take part in the U19 Asia Cup, which will be played in Dubai. The squad was approved by the Honorable Minister of Sports and Youth Affairs, Harin Fernando. The team captained by Sineth Jayawardena will depart for the Asia Cup on December 6, 2023,” read a media release of Sri Lanka Cricket.
