Trent Boult got the ball to move both ways, and gave India the kind of match they’d want to brush aside as a ‘one-off’ or a ‘bad day’, setting up an easy eight-wicket win in the fourth ODI in Hamilton.
The left-arm pacer returned with stunning figures of 10-4-21-5 to bowl the visitors out for 92 in just 30.5 overs. The Blackcaps chased it down in 14.5 overs, the entire game lasting only 3.5 hours.
In the absence of regular skipper Virat Kohli and an injured MS Dhoni, the Indian batting unit found the going tough against the Kiwi bowling attack. Seven Indian batsmen were dismissed for single-digit scores, unable to tackle the moving ball.
Also, in terms of balls remaining (212), this is India’s worst defeat in the ODIs.
Here’s how Twitter reacted to the match:
Disappointing day for Team India today, they can learn to adapt and absorb the pressure better in conditions that are conducive for swing bowling. It was also an outstanding 10 over spell from Trent Boult who exploited the conditions well and bowled beautifully. #4thODI

See what happens when a team don’t have there best batsmen in.

Easy-peasy for NZ. 92 too shallow a score to defend. Twice that may have been competitive on this pitch. Given their performances in the oast year, this match can be seen as a one-off disaster. No Kohli or Dhoni too. But India must guard against complacency

It’s a bad day, not a bad team. Bad shot selection, not bad players #NZvIND #KeepCalm

A Ten-Over spell by Boult. Broke the back of India’s batting. But two dismissals that disappointed more came from the other end—Rayudu and DK. Both loose shots. #IndvNZ @StarSportsIndia
