On Sunday, Indian team selectors announced the T20I, ODI & Test squad for the upcoming tour of West Indies. Former Indian skipper MS Dhoni is still recovering from his injury and was not available for the selection process.
Attending the press conference after the meeting, Indian chief selector spoke about MS Dhoni’s retirement speculation.
“Well, he is unavailable for this series. He has expressed his unavailability but having said that we had certainly roadmap and plans till the World Cup. Subsequently, post World Cup we have laid down a few more plans and we thought of giving as many opportunities to Rishab Pant and to see he is groomed. So this is our plan right now, so that’s it”, told Prasad.
On being questioned about Dhoni’s selection if he is available, Prasad replied, “Well, I can not answer that question, it is up to him too. I mean, first of all, he is not fit, so when he is fit and he is available then we will look at it actually”.
“See retirement is purely individual. A legendary cricketer like MS Dhoni, they know when to retire but what is the future course of action, what is the roadmap that we will have to create, look at, is in hands of the selection committee”, said Prasad when asked if he was surprised that Dhoni hasn’t announced his retirement.
“I mean, I don’t think we need to discuss anything on it because first of all, he is not available. Second, we have already started grooming some youngster”, he added.
