As per the England and Wales Cricket Board’s (ECB) statement, England made one change in their team for the fourth Ashes Test on Tuesday.
Somerset bowler Craig Overton is all set to replace Chris Woakes in the game starting at Old Trafford, Manchester on September 4.
Overton had made his Test debut against Australia in 2017, and ever since, he has been a part of only three Tests, adding seven wickets to his name. The last time he featured in a Test match was in March 2018 against New Zealand.
The statement also confirmed that England would shuffle their line-up by moving Joe Denly up the order to open the batting with Rory Burns. Jason Roy, who was the opener in the first three matches, will bat at the No. 4 position.
“England captain Joe Root has also confirmed that Joe Denly will move to the top of the batting order to open with Rory Burns, with Jason Roy set to bat at No 4,” ECB said in their statement.
England omitted Chris Woakes from the playing XI after his bowling did not live up to the expectations in the first three matches. He managed to take only nine wickets in six innings. Woakes’ chances were further hampered after Jofra Archer came, saw and conquered in style, scalping 13 wickets in just two matches.
England rode on Ben Stokes’ brilliant 135 not out to defeat Australia in a thrilling encounter by one wicket at Headingley.
The Ashes 2019 is now tied at 1-1. Both the teams have a win each under their belt, while one match ended in a draw.
