Delhi Capitals (DC) head coach Ricky Ponting feels that the new member of the team, Alex Carey, could win a lot of games in the next edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL). Ponting opined Carey as an excellent player of spin with a ‘good cricket brain.’
Recently, Carey played a fantastic knock of 55 from 24 balls for Adelaide Strikers at his new batting position of No.4 in the ongoing Big Bash League (BBL). Ponting watched the innings from the commentary box and showered praiseworthy comments for Carey.
“This role that he’s playing now is the exact reason he became so appealing to me and the Delhi Capitals,” Ponting said during Channel Seven commentary from the Adelaide Oval.
“He’s a good player of spin, and he’s got such a good cricket brain and a sensible head on his shoulders that I feel he’ll be able to get us across the line in a lot of games (next) year,” added Ponting.
“And also if we have an injury to our current wicketkeeper, Rishabh Pant, then obviously he can fill that role nicely for us as well,” Ponting added further.

Carey, who is yet to make his debut in the cash-rich league, also talked about his addition in DC.
“I can’t wait, I’ve got a big smile on my face thinking about it. It’s one of those tournaments you really want to be part of, as is the Big Bash, and I see those as probably the big two in the world,” said Carey.
“And I can’t wait to work with Ricky. Obviously, he’s the best in the world at what he does, so I’m very excited,” added Carey.
Last week, in the IPL players’ auction, Carey was bought by the Delhi based franchise for INR 2.40 crores.
