Former Indian opener Virender Sehwag remains critical on veteran wicket-keeper batsman MS Dhoni’s place in the team.
Sehwag, in a recent interaction, argued about Dhoni’s place in the side the presence of wicketkeeping-batsmen KL Rahul and Rishabh Pant.
Rahul has consolidated his place at the number five slot in the ‘brittle’ Indian middle-order. With the return of Hardik Pandya from injury, the middle order looks substantial with Shreyas Iyer at number four and Mumbai Indians stalwart finishing at six, followed by Jadeja at seven.
“Where will he fit in? With the likes of Rishabh Pant and KL Rahul already in form, especially the latter performing exceptionally well of late, I think there is no reason why we should not stick with them,” Sehwag stated according to TOI.
Much had been talked about Dhoni and his chances to feature in the upcoming T20 World Cup in Australia, during the prelude of Indian Premier League (IPL).
Coach Ravi Shastri reckoned that a decent IPL season meant MSD will be back in the reckoning for the T20 World Cup squad.
However, the head coach overlooked the fact that the former Indian captain has not returned to any prominent cricketing action since the semi-finals of the World Cup in 2019.
Moreover, the newly-appointed selection committee members were also asked about the question of MSD’s place in the current Indian side.
The highly- anticipated return to action in the yellows of Chennai Super Kings finally happened a couple of weeks back when Dhoni resumed training at Chepauk. Only time will tell what the future holds for the talismanic Indian wicketkeeper-batsman.
