England’s tour of India in 2008 was spiced up by the verbal duel between Kevin Pietersen and Yuvraj Singh when the former called the latter a ‘pie chucker’.
The rivalry between the two was simmering before already and then during one of the press conferences, Pietersen made fun of Yuvraj’s bowling.
“When the ball is swinging and seaming and you’ve got a guy like Zaheer Khan, who is one of the best bowlers I’ve ever faced, not bowling at you and you’ve got a pie-chucker like Yuvraj Singh bowling at you I really don’t mind. When you get left-arm filth like that it makes you feel really good,” commented Pietersen back in 2008.
However, the Indian all-rounder was quick to refute his comments by bringing up the statistics of him dismissing KP on five occasions.
“It shows KP hates getting out to me and if a useless bowler is getting him out five times, then I would say that is quite useless batting,” Yuvi rebutted.
The two went on to share the field on numerous occasions since and developed a relationship based on mutual respect.
KP brought back memories of his banter with Yuvi through one of the video posts on Instagram, captioning, “Just dealing with pies, @englandcricket.”

The English stalwart posted the snippet of his trademark switch-hit shot which the cricketing world witnessed for the first time. During one of the games in Durham, KP switched his stance and smacked Scott Styris towards the mid-wicket, being a left-hander.
“Well, sometimes u slip on those pies too,” Yuvraj commented on the post.
During England’s 2008 tour to India, Yuvraj Singh walked away with the Man of the Series title as India completed a 5-0 series win in the 7-matches series.
The last two matches of the ODI series were cancelled due to terrorist attacks in Mumbai. England returned to India to feature in a two-match Test series, losing by 1-0.
