The famous December 2014 Test in Adelaide between Australia and India is one of those games which will be remembered forever especially by Indian cricket fans. It was a match when the then India skipper MS Dhoni was rested due to an injury, which opened the gates of opportunity for Virat Kohli to lead the side.
It was for the very first time that Kohli was captaining the Indian team in a Test match. No wonder it was an extraordinary moment in Kohli’s career. In a recent post on Twitter, the current Indian skipper recalled the Adelaide encounter terming it as a ‘very special and important Test’.
The 31-year-old described his feelings in a Twitter thread featuring two back-to-back tweets. In the first tweet, Kohli addressed the Test as a special path in the journey of the Indian Test team at present.
“Throwback to this very special and important Test in our journey as the test team that we are today. Adelaide 2014 was a game filled with emotion on both sides and an amazing one for people to watch too. Although we didn’t cross the line being so close, it taught us that…” Kohli wrote.

Similarly, in the second tweet, Kohli stated that the 2014 Test will always remain a crucial landmark for the Indian Test team.
“…anything is possible if we put our mind to it because we committed to doing something which seemed very difficult, to begin with, but almost pulled it off. All of us committed to it. This will always remain a very important milestone in our journey as a test side,” Kohli wrote further.

It was the first Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, played from December 9 to 13 in 2014. After opting to bat, Australia saw impressive knocks of 162 by Steve Smith and 145 of David Warner followed by Aussie skipper Michael Clarke‘s 128 which helped them to reach 517/7 dec.
In response, Kohli-led side managed to score 444, thanks to a 115-run knock by the newly appointed captain of Team India.
When it comes to second innings, Australian opener Warner shined yet again and scored another century to take the hosts to 290/5 when Clarke announced the declaration.
In the fourth innings of the Test match, India could only reach 315 and lost the contest by 48 runs. But Kohli shimmered again as he played a remarkable knock of 141 runs.
In that tour, India went on to lose the four-match series 0-2. However, four years later, in 2018/19, India took the revenge as they became the first Asian team to register a Test series win when Kohli and Co. defeated Tim Paine’s side 2-1.
