Team India’s domination over Sri Lanka continued on Day 2 of the ongoing first Test at PCA Stadium in Mohali. The hosts resumed the day with their overnight score of 357/6 and went on to post a humungous 574/8 before declaring the first innings.
Ravindra Jadeja led the Indian batting on the second day and smashed a remarkable second century of his Test career. Jadeja kept on hitting boundaries at regular intervals and scored an unbeaten 175 – his highest Test score.
Notably, Jaddu was involved in three 100-run plus partnerships – 104 with Rishabh Pant, 130 with Ravichandran Ashwin and unbeaten 103 with Mohammed Shami. The innings came to an end when Rohit Sharma called his men in minutes before the Tea interval as Shami had sustained a blow from a stray throw.
Just like the batters, Indian bowlers also kept Sri Lanka under pressure and made inroads by dismissing the mainstays of tourists’ batting lineup. The visitors had a decent start as the opening pair added 48 runs in 18 overs before India’s star spinner Ashwin provided the first breakthrough after he trapped Lahiru Thirimanne in front.
The home team kept the momentum going and picked up three more wickets as Sri Lanka finished Day 2 at 108/4 in 43 overs, trailing by 466 runs. Ashwin bagged two wickets for 21 runs in 13 overs, while Jasprit Bumrah (1/20) and Jadeja (1/30) picked up one scalp apiece.
“Feeling really good. Yesterday Rishabh was playing really well, he was taking the bowlers on, so I was just staying at the non-striker’s end and enjoying his batting. I was just taking my time and being very calm in the middle, me and Rishabh were talking about building a partnership and had a similar conversation with Ash also. I always enjoy batting with him (Ashwin) bowling with him, it is all about teamwork, one man can’t win you the game, and it has to be a team effort. The wicket might turn more as the game progresses and the odd ball is also keeping low, we will try to bowl wicket to wicket.,” said Jadeja after the end of the day’s play.

Ravindra Jadeja is providing a perfect tribute to Shane Warne who nicknamed him Rockstar back in 2008. Warne also said about Jadeja "We identified him as a special talent straight away."#INDvSL

We all talk about how #Jadeja is the most improved cricketer across formats in recent times. Jaddu showed it once again from playing second fiddle to Pant yesterday and today how to accumulate runs without any fuss. Well done #SirJadeja pic.twitter.com/IT3deDVmir
