The newly-formed IPL franchise Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) have signed Australian pacer Andrew Tye for the upcoming season. He is a like-to-like replacement for England speedster Mark Wood, who was ruled out of IPL 2022 after suffering an elbow injury during the first Test against West Indies.
The Super Giants had bought Wood for a hefty amount of INR 7.50 crore at the mega-auction in February.
“Scan results have confirmed that Wood has a right elbow injury. He will return to the UK next week for a specialist opinion regarding the management of his injury,” the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) said in a statement.
Meanwhile, Tye was a part of the Rajasthan Royals (RR) squad in IPL 2021 but had to pull out of the tournament due to personal reasons.
The 35-year-old won the Purple Cap award, clinching 24 wickets while representing Punjab Kings (PBKS) in the 2018 edition. He also took a five-wicket haul with a hat-trick on his IPL debut for Gujarat Lions (GL) in IPL 2017.
LSG will begin their IPL 2022 campaign on March 28 with a clash against Gujarat Titans (GT) at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.
