In the latest development, superstar MS Dhoni has stepped down as captain of Chennai Super Kings (CSK) two days ahead of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022.

The official Twitter handle of CSK confirmed the news, stating that Dhoni has decided to hand over the leadership to all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja. The franchise also added that the Ranchi-based cricketer would continue to represent the ‘Yellow Army’ this season and beyond.

“MS Dhoni has decided to hand over the leadership of Chennai Super Kings and picked Ravindra Jadeja to lead the team. Jadeja, who has been an integral part of Chennai Super Kings since 2012, will only be the third player to lead CSK. Dhoni will continue to represent Chennai Super Kings this season and beyond,” stated an official CSK release.

Notably, Dhoni has been the CSK captain since the inaugural season of the cash-rich league in 2008. Under his leadership, the Super Kings have won the IPL title as many as four times (in 2010, 2011, 2018, and 2021), only behind Mumbai Indians (MI) and have the highest win percentage of matches among all teams in the IPL – 64.83%.

Further, CSK also holds the record for most appearances in the playoffs (eleven) and the Final (nine) in the history of IPL. The defending champions will open their IPL 2022 campaign against the last edition’s runner-up, Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on March 26.
