Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB), on Saturday, registered their third win of IPL 2022 after defeating Mumbai Indians (MI) by seven wickets. Opener Anuj Rawat and No. 3 Virat Kohli starred for RCB to hand MI their fourth consecutive defeat in the ongoing tournament.
Rawat smashed a match-winning half-century, impressing one and all with an explosive batting display. The young star was well supported by Kohli, who fell just two runs short of what could be his maiden fifty in the fifteenth season of the cash-rich league.
Kohli’s dismissal, however, created controversy as the right-handed batter was given out leg before wicket after the third umpire failed to find any conclusive evidence to overturn the on-field umpire’s decision.
It all happened in the penultimate over of RCB’s chase when a length delivery from Dewald Brevis struck Kohli’s pads. The on-field umpire gave a decision in MI’s favour, and Kohli immediately opted for a review.
The third umpire failed to decide whether the ball hit the pad or the bat first, and due to lack of evidence, the third umpire went with the on-field decision, which left Kohli miffed. While walking back to the dugout, he expressed his disappointment as he failed to complete his half-century.
Following the dismissal, Iceland Cricket took to Twitter to take a cheeky dig at BCCI for their poor umpiring standard in the world’s biggest franchise league. They also went on to suggest they have ‘trained’ umpires ready to fly over to India for the IPL.
“It’s not easy for on-field umpires to detect inside edges or whether the ball hit bat or pad first. But every TV umpire should be able to make the right call with the benefit of slow-motion replays and technology like UltraEdge. @BCCI We have trained umpires ready to fly over,” tweeted Iceland Cricket.

RCB will next face defending champions Chennai Super Kings (CSK) at Mumbai’s Dr DY Patil Sports Academy on Tuesday (April 12).
