India head coach Rahul Dravid is currently in Bangladesh as the team is taking on Bangladesh in the ongoing Test series. Ahead of the ongoing red-ball battle, both sides played a three-match ODI series, which the hosts won by 2-1.
While the Men in Blue could not win the ODI leg, one of the biggest positives for them was the return of form for Virat Kohli. The ex-India captain smashed a brilliant hundred in the final ODI to end his century drought in the 50-overs format.
Interestingly, Kohli came back to form under Dravid’s coaching. In Asia Cup 2022, the Delhi-lad scored his maiden ton in the T20Is against Afghanistan. He continued to shine in the 2022 T20 World Cup. The right-handed batter scored a memorable 82 not out against Pakistan, an innings that will go down as one of the best T20 knocks.
Dravid, who has been coaching Team India since late 2021, recently spoke about Kohli’s form and said as a coach, it is always tough to see when a player like Kohli goes through a rough patch. Dravid mentioned how it was fantastic to watch Kohli train and prepare for his game.
“It was not easy for him since the standards that he has set for himself. It has been fantastic to watch Virat Kohli train and prepare over the last one and a half years,” Dravid told official broadcaster SonyLiv in an interview.
“As coaches, it is our job to look beyond those numbers and see that he had batted really well in that period of time,” the India head coach added.
Meanwhile, in the ongoing Test against Bangladesh at Chattogram, Kohli failed to impress with the bat as he got out for a solitary run in the first innings. He will be looking to end his century drought in the longest format as well. His last ton in Test cricket came against the same opposition in November 2019 in Kolkata.
