The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) confirmed that Shanto would be returning home to begin his rehabilitation. This decision was made with an eye on the upcoming ODI World Cup 2023, where Bangladesh hopes to make a strong impact. Bangladesh’s team physio provides insights into Najmul Hossain Shanto’s condition
Shanto’s injury occurred during Bangladesh’s match against Afghanistan, where he showcased his batting prowess by scoring a brilliant century. He didn’t also take the field later in the game. Bangladesh’s team physio, Bayjedul Islam Khan, provided insights into Shanto’s condition, stating that the batter had suffered a muscle tear.
“The player had complained of hamstring pain during batting and could not field. We had an MRI scan done, confirming a muscle tear. As a precaution, Shanto will not take any further part in the tournament and will be returning home to start rehab and prepare for the World Cup,” said Bayjedul.
Shanto’s absence is not only a loss for Bangladesh but also a disappointment for cricket fans who were enjoying his outstanding performances in the Asia Cup. The 25-year-old scored 89 and 104 runs in the two matches he played in Asia Cup 2203.
