Star Australia all-rounder Glenn Maxwell, who suffered a leg injury last year, rues missing out the upcoming Border-Gavaskar Trophy in India.
Maxwell fractured his fibula in an accident during a friend’s birthday party in mid-November.
The 34-year-old was subsequently ruled out for a good deal of time.
The much-awaited Test series between India and Australia is set to begin on February 9 in Nagpur. Delhi will host the second Test from February 17 while Dharamshala and Ahmedabad will stage the last two games from March 1 and March 9, respectively.
The four-match Test leg will be followed by three ODIs – Mumbai (March 17), Visakhapatnam (March 19) and Chennai (March 22). Maxwell will miss the Test series while his presence in the white-ball series would depend on his recovery.
“It probably will nag at me for the rest of my life,” said Maxwell while doing commentary for a Big Bash League (BBL) game on Fox Cricket.
Maxwell added he is using the disappointment from the injury to set himself up for the final few years of his career.
“It’s nice getting the opportunity to watch your teammates play, especially over there. I think they’ve got the squad that’s probably as good as I’ve seen go over to India since I’ve been watching Tests over there, anyway.
“I started looking forward, thinking I will make the best recovery possible – I’ll come back early, and be stronger than ever. I started using it as a motivation factor rather than ‘oh no, why has this happened to me?” said Maxi.
“I tried to turn it around and think how can I finish the back end of my career, be the fittest and healthiest and most motivated I have been?” the right-hander concluded.
