Five-time IPL champions Mumbai Indians (MI) had a tough start to the ongoing season, but they have managed to turn things around with three consecutive victories. They are currently placed at the sixth spot in the points table with a net run rate of -0.164. In their recent game, they won convincingly against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in their own backyard, with Cameron Green playing a crucial role in their triumph.
Green is one of Mumbai’s newest recruits, and he had a memorable game versus SRH, scoring an unbeaten 64 off just 40 balls, with a strike rate of 160. He also displayed his bowling potential by dismissing Rohit Sharma’s counterpart Aiden Markram and conceding only 29 runs in his four-over spell. His outstanding performance earned him the ‘Player of the Match’ award.
After the game, Green caught up with his schoolmate and teammate, Tim David, and spoke about his experience of scoring his first half-century in the IPL.
“You know, it was great. yeah, obviously you kind of want to get that monkey off the back a little bit. Yeah, it’s always nice to get the first another way,” said Green.
Meanwhile, David revealed that they had attended the same school in Australia, and Green’s talent was evident even back then when David used to coach him before school.
“Some of you might not actually know that Greenie and I are actually went to the same school back in Australia. Greeny was a few years younger than me and, and maybe I’d, I’d left school,” stated David.
“I might have been one or two years out and I used to come down coach in the morning before school and there was this little cheeky bugger. He wasn’t as tall as he is now and he just used to smack me out. I had the side arm throwing at him. I used to try and bump him.
“I just couldn’t get him out and look now here he is on the, on the IPL stage,” added David.
The hard-hitting batter also expressed his pride in Green’s accomplishments and was thrilled to see him perform well in the IPL.
“He’s obviously been doing it for Australia for a little while, but it’s very exciting, so very proud of you mate. Well done,” concluded David.
Well, Rohit & Co. will be hoping to maintain their winning streak and move up in the points table. With players like Green and David in their team, they have the potential to clinch their sixth IPL title.
