The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 saw the long-awaited debut of Arjun Tendulkar in a match against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) on April 16. Although Mumbai Indians (MI) won the match, Arjun went wicketless and gave away 17 runs in the two overs he bowled. However, the junior Tendulkar went on to bag his first wicket of the IPL in the very next match against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) on Tuesday (April 18).
Arjun dismissed Bhuvneshwar Kumar in the contest to bundle out SRH on 178 and assure MI a 14 runs win in the 19th over. The wicket for the 23-year-old came off a fuller delivery which Bhuvi tried to hit over the leg side but ended up getting caught at the covers by Rohit Sharma due to the twisted face of the bat. The MI skipper was thrilled and ran towards Arjun in excitement to celebrate his maiden wicket in the league.
A special moment for young Arjun Tendulkar, who gets his first wicket in #TATAIPL and it is his captain Rohit Sharma, who takes the catch of Bhuvneshwar Kumar.

After the match, MI mentor Sachin Tendulkar took to Twitter and congratulated MI on their victory. He even hailed the standout performers from the game and also reacted to his son’s maiden IPL wicket.
“A superb all-round performance by Mumbai Indians once again. Cameron Green impressed with both bat & ball. Ishan & Tilak’s batting is as good as it gets! The IPL is getting more interesting every day. Great going boys! And finally a Tendulkar has an IPL wicket!” posted Sachin on Twitter.

Notably, Sachin has played 78 IPL matches in his career but doesn’t have a single wicket to his name in the league.
Coming back to the game, Cameron Green was declared the ‘Player of the Match’ for his all-round performance. Green scored a brilliant 64 runs and also scalped a wicket for MI. It is also noteworthy that with the win over SRH, Mumbai have now moved up to the sixth spot in the league’s points tally.
